thoughts on Vogart/Plaid situation:

as a graphic designer I have benefited from the copyright laws throughout my professional life; whether it was during the time we had our own business & copyrighted our original designs or through the company's I have worked for, which are able to continue to do business in part due to the laws that protect their products. Plaid has every right to protect whatever copyright or trademarks they own & I won't begrudge them that. having said that, I do think its possible for them to enforce their rights without bullying & hope that is the road they choose to take.

until we know more I'm going to keep my Vogart images on Flickr locked down. on thursdays I'll continue to post embroidery patterns but they will probably be mostly workbasket or coloring books. and of course, if I hear about any updates I'll let you know.

on a side note:

I'm starting to work on embroidered xmas gifts...well, its more starting to think about them than actually work on them {if I'm completely honest with myself & you}. anyhow, I was thinking it might be fun to start a xmas feature here on the blog. I've got lots of vintage xmas craft magazines, a couple coloring books & some craft books I would share. to gauge your feelings I've installed a poll, which will be up till saturday at midnight. I hope you'll take time to register your opinion...

getting fresh at Michaels

today I finally remembered to bring my camera with me while running errands - I'll share some of the photos I took tomorrow.

today though I wanted to share a new {at least to me} jewelry line at Michaels called Fresh:



I bought those birds, among other things...

I don't know if all Michaels' locations are doing this...but mine is having a 4-hour madness sale tomorrow {the 17th} from 4pm-8pm where a coupon entitles you to 25% off your entire purchase {including sale items but excluding some things which are listed in a very small font}. just thought i'd mention it in case anyone could benefit from a visit there...

Today I wanted to share something I did last weekend.

At several different sales I’ve picked up some undone sun-catchers because they were so cheap, reminded me of my childhood & I just thought I should be able to find something to do with them.

So last weekend I got this idea to try filling one with patterned papers instead of those little pellets that melt.

Here’s the result:


It was a quick & satisfying little project & it came out just like I imagined, which is always a fun bonus.

I lucked out when it came to the Mom lottery & I am so thankful for her. She is supportive, understanding, encouraging, loving and fun!

She is so much a part of me words cannot even express how much I love her.

{Oh wow, I’m so happy it’s Friday!}

I was so overwhelmed by your nice comments about the insects – thank you all so much! I’m pretty much an introvert & lone crafter so posting things here is a big step for me, in a way. Thank you for making it such a positive, supportive environment for me to share my work in!

I’ve got big plans for projects this weekend. I had a breakthrough last night on a project I was sort of stalled on and so now I’m so excited to continue on with it – don’t you love when that happens?!

Before I run off here is another project I did last weekend:

I found these hooks in the clearance section at Michaels for 25 cents each - how could I pass that up?!


A trip to the scrapbooking aisle for papers then a little painting, gluing & cutting at home & I’ve got some fun hooks for two little boy’s rooms.

Since Friday is a Misc. day I tried to put together a mix of stuff for today’s giveaway:


I had yet another duplicate of that book – it scares me what lurks in the dark corners of our home! Petunia is another duplicate, some more fabric, another practice embroidery I did, some fun buttons and a plain felt bag ready to be made into something.

I got tagged by Rach at average jane crafter so I’m going to do 7 more random things, although I doubt you guys really want to know this much about me!

But first…I’m going to include a photo because I can’t do a post without at least one:


Ok 7 more random things:

1*Our pets found us - we didn’t plan on getting them. They are all rescues – although they were very young and don’t remember being strays so they don’t appreciate us as much as they should.

2*I have sweaty feet

3*I don’t blare my horn, or flip people off but I definitely talk/complain to myself, out loud, about what bad drivers most people are when I’m behind the wheel.

4*I want to put a sign on our front yard that tells people that we pick up after our dog on walks and that if I catch you not picking up after your dog on our lawn that I will follow you home and empty bags of excrement on your lawn & see how you like it. I would also mention that he’s a big dog & poops A LOT.

5*I wanted to be a vet when I was young. That didn't work out, but I would still like to get my wildlife rehabilitation certificate.

6*I took piano & violin lessons when I was young. And while I would be fine never picking up a violin again, I would like to have a piano again & maybe even take lessons. And this time I’d actually practice…

7*I wear gnome pj’s
