thursday = embroidery
thanks to my friend patty {hi!} I found these great new frame pendants at hobby lobby & started experimenting with how to combine them with embroidery:
I stitched the nest with eggs for a friend...and found that tiny stitching isn't something I like or am very good at. so for the next one instead of stitching myself I used a flower from a thrifted hankie:
so much easier :)
and finally, for this week's vintage embroidery transfer I have a basket of flowers with some kitties for you:
happy stitching!
***edited to add - in case you don't have a hobby lobby in your area here are links to their online store & all the different pendants they have available {all the different shapes are also available in store I believe}:
silver square
silver rectangle
brass square
silver round

one of my favorite thrift stores is rather small so the staff of older ladies who volunteer there only put out seasonal clothing & I have been waiting with anticipation for when they would change out the winter items for spring/summer. I was sure there would be some neat vintage things since there almost always is at this store & I wasn't disappointed when I went in the other day to find that spring had indeed sprung - yay!!!

recently thrifted
you would have thought I'd found some kind of priceless work of art the way I got so excited when I saw these at a recent estate sale...
I love how the color is so wonky & that someone not only took them but framed them to hang in their home...and I'm so happy/lucky I was in the right place at the right time.
of course they are only making me more obsessed about going to the las vegas neon museum - in fact maybe they're a sign {no pun intended} that I do in fact need to get there sooner rather than later :)
{have a wonderful weekend!}

a little piece of heaven with a side of blue cheese
being from the buffalo, new york area I never have chicken wings except when I'm there because well, not to hurt anyone's feelings but they just aren't the same otherwise. that was until I was taken to al's bar & grill in parville, mo...
these are the real deal, made by a native who it turns out is related to my high school principle {it's a small world & it gets even smaller when you're from two little towns next to each other in western new york}!
so I no longer only have to eat wings only once or twice a year {thanks antonio!} - now if I can just get some beef on weck & fried dough I'll be all set, although my waistline & arteries would probably prefer I not...
p.s. out of curiosity we looked up the world record for eating chicken wings - 181 wings in 12 minutes by a tiny woman who's nickname is "the black widow"

traf-o-teria
while in el dorado recently I noticed this great old sign on a building downtown:
the building now houses a printer by a different name so I was curious about what had once occupied the space...a little research online led me to this information regarding a filling for the trademark back in 1954, as well as this photo of the logo in use:
and then this 1956 popular science magazine article which really connected all the dots:
it was fun to track down the history behind the sign - I'm glad it was left up there so I could & I hope if it ever has to be taken down that it finds a good home.
