And I’ve got a finished embroidery project to share with you.
I recently saw this painting on flickr by lisa congdon and was inspired to create an embroidered birch forest with a little deer silhouette.
I decided on a little plastic deer painted black to create a more 3-D affect.
Then I put it all into a shadow box:
And don’t forget to vote for what color I should paint my newly thrifted owl!

I a bit of a lurker but I just had to comment! I super <3 your birch forest! How does one "do" trees? I'm an embroidery newbie.

I immediately thought you should paint the owl the aqua, but now that I see the last one went aqua, I vote for green.

I just wanted to tell you how INCREDIBLE your birch embroidery is. Though it looks as though more than one person beat me to the punch. And doing it as a shadow box is a great idea. If you ever want to share how you did the birch trees, I'd be all ears (or eyes, I guess...)

kate - I did the brown first, in stem stitch & then I filled in with the white in what I guess you would call a large satin stitch, working around the brown. If you click on the "feeling stitchy" link under my embroidery blogs you'll find great resources for learning how to embroidery.

I love love love your birch trees. Your embroidery is gorgeous. I'm into trees and bark these days (who knows why) and hadn't thought of birch trees. hmmm.
your birch trees are wonderful, and the plastic deer offsets them nicely!
