giving thanks

I'm thankful for many things, chief among them my family & friends - whom I'm so happy to be living near now. I had the great pleasure to spend the thanksgiving holiday with one of those dear friends & her family this year.

it began with a beautiful invite:

the day was gorgeous, warm enough even for open doors:

the turkey was smoked all night & tasted incredible:

we gathered round the table to enjoy a delicious meal & good company:

by some miracle I even baked edible pumpkin cookies:

I played outside with a sweet little boy who picked out the prettiest leaves for me:

and I wore a vintage cardigan that reminded me of fall:

I hope you had a wonderful day too.

365 days of stitchy awesomeness

you may already know about the magic that is 365 lucky days but in case you don't, and because I'm completely in love with her stitchy style & sense of humor I wanted to mention her project to create an original piece each day for one year.

here are some of the pieces that I was especially enamored with:

and my absolute favorite:

I'm in awe of her commitment & creativity...and can't wait to see what she creates next!

excelsior springs

a couple weekends ago on a beautiful saturday, I took a drive about a half hour outside kansas city to the town of excelsior springs. back in the day people flocked there to experience the reputed healing properties of the water from the 20 springs the city was founded on. in 1935 a one million dollar federal works administration project built the hall of waters which included the world's longest water bar. things have changed quite a bit between then & now but the hall & water bar are still there...

in addition to touring the hall of waters I walked all over town, ate a cheeseburger at Ray's, went to an antique mall & a couple thrift stores...

it was a very nice day :)
