thursday = embroidery

first: thank you everyone who provided translations of yesterday's book - it was so much fun to read them & to have such an interactive post!

second: I have a little sneak peek for you:

I've been working on more sewing pattern embroidery collages & think I might try listing them in the shop...stay tuned.

third: today's embroidery transfer:

here are my favorites:

{I've uploaded all 7 days of the week to my flickr account, sorry I didn't have time to clean them up though.}

a squirrel finds his purpose

waaaay back in march I stitched up this squirrel and until this past weekend he sat forlorn & unused.

but then a trip to target & the purchase of a $1 reusable shopping bag changed all that & gave his little life meaning:

thank you so much for all your fisher price comments & memories - they all made me smile!

also, I'd like to say hi! to those of you who have come via free quilt patterns, which has added doe-c-doe to their list. I post about embroidery on thursdays, but you're welcome to visit anytime...

I heart fisher price

I grew up in Western New York, the home of Fisher Price toys.

when I was little, my sister worked there & she would bring me home defective toys...things like horses with 4 different color legs.

in addition, I had the airplane, parking garage, farm, house, wind-up clock, as well as a pull-along dog. at least those are the ones I remember playing with, I'm sure I had others.

so I have a special place in my heart for vintage FP toys, but don't actually own any. until this past weekend, when this guy seemed so dejected at being unsold on the last day of an estate sale:

{evidence my family must not be the only one with a weakness for Fisher Price}

repurposed necklaces

{I've added necklaces using repurposed earrings to the shop.}

thursday = embroidery

I thrifted a pair of wood earrings awhile ago thinking that they would make nice pendants for necklaces. the other day I decided to work on repurposing one of them & realized it was going to look kind of boring if I didn't add another element...so I added an embroidered flower from a vintage thrifted pillowcase:

I just cut out the flower, ironed on some fusible webbing to stiffen the fabric & stitched on some jump rings. it came out exactly as I hoped it would & I'm very happy with it.

moving on...I picked today's embroidery transfer up at rummage sale last weekend. it was the tiniest little sale...

p.s. julie over at janesapron is having a giveaway for a very sweet craft apron that incorporates a brilliant idea involving a tape measure…you must go look!

for the record

looking for some new artwork for your home? old records are cheap & plentiful - I guarantee that there is a large selection of them at a thrift store near you right at this very minute.

I think it would be fun to do a whole wall of framed records so I've started to pick them up here & there when they strike my fancy:

I found these 3 at two different stores & just love how they work together...I need to do some research to see if there are more in the series:

I was also excited to find this one, illustrated by the brilliant Mary Blair:

who is robert lyons?

I don't know...but I love this artwork with his signature on it that I bought last weekend at an estate sale:

bunnies & swans...oh my!

more photos of the vintage cake toppers I got at that estate sale awhile ago...

{I love setting these little guys up & photographing them.}

I was so focused on finally getting those dang rings listed this weekend that I totally spaced-out on thanking everyone for the nice comments {& glue peeling confessions} on the fabric covered stag - thank you!

I tried to include a variety of colors, materials & price points - please let me know what you think, your feedback would be very much appreciated!

I have that "the party's all set-up, now lets see if anyone comes" feeling...

stag party

every evening this week I have sat in front of the tv with fabric, scissors, glue & a ceramic stag having a fun 'ole time making this:

I bought the stag this summer at an estate sale for 50 cents. he had two broken antlers but I liked the size & shape.

when I glued the antlers on it didn't look very good...I thought maybe if I painted him it would be less noticeable but it still looked pathetic. then last weekend it occurred to me that if I just covered him in fabric the issue would be totally hidden.

the best part? peeling the semi dried glue off my fingers...what is it that is so satisfying about that?!

also, I have been very bad lately & not thanked some very sweet bloggers:

one pretty thing for featuring the animal clock

la chapina huipil crafts for bestowing a brillante weblog award on doe-c-doe

patty @ pip stitch for the I heart your blog award

{I'm sorry guys...I am very flattered, just not very quick, thank you so much!}

have a lovely weekend...cover something with glue & fabric if you get a chance, its fun!

why?

why does everything take twice as long {or more!} as you think it will?

why aren't there more hours in the day?

why, if there can't be more hours in the day...can't I function on less sleep?

why can't I think of something better to blog about?!

weekend overview

firstly, belle would like to thank you all for such a warm welcome...she was quite flattered by your comments!

I had a relatively productive weekend, although its never enough & sunday night I am always full of regrets for time not spent better.

I took some photos:

I thrifted:

I organized earrings:

that last one is directly related to the {hopeful} opening of an esty shop in the near future. I even ordered shipping supplies!

meet miss blue belle

I get things in my head & then can't get them out...I guess that's the definition of an obsession.

the latest one was to get a vintage 3-speed bike, preferably blue. this started earlier in the summer & I was able to ignore it until recently. mostly because I was pretty hooked on the electra bikes or a totally restored vintage one, but since they were all {way} out of my budget I was at an impasse.

{its funny, I never get obsessed about things like keeping a clean house or eating healthier...}

then, for the heck of it I checked craigslist the other day.

there were a surprising number of blue bikes to choose from...

I ended up getting this one:

once I got her home I, of course, had to take some photos:
