handmade valentines recap

every special occasion or holiday I always have great plans to do something handmade for people…but it doesn't always work out…or I don't get as much done as I'd hoped…or even get started in the first place :P

this year I only got two projects completed…

the pillow diy is from martha stewart via pinterest

and the t-shirt was my first attempt at freezer paper stenciling

…I must be one of the last people around who hasn't tried it yet!

I was surprised how well the stencil stuck to the fabric & how easily it came off…I'm definitely going to be doing it more often :)

…and next year I swear, more handmade valentine's day gifts!

I love your projects! And I'm surprised I hadn't seen the Martha Stewart tutorial before. I'm inspired to try both now. (What ink/paint did you use for your tee and were you pleased with it? Have you washed it?)

thank you so much for leaving a comment Kristin…I should have mentioned what I used for the t-shirt, slipped my mind, thanks for reminding me! I used Tulip fabric Spray Paint - I liked it because I actually wanted a spattered effect but if that's not something you want you might not want to use it since I found it was difficult to use it without getting that result. it washed pretty well I think - I haven't done much painting on fabric so I'm not familiar with the results of lots of different paints - I would have liked if it was a little less stiff but I suppose unless you use dye it's hard not to get some stiffness since you are adding a layer of something onto the fabric rather than something that soaks into it.

sarah - they actually weren't that bad…I haven't used my sewing machine in years (seriously) and that part went just fine! the vinyl is actually not bad to use…I was a little nervous about that in terms of using it with the sewing machine. the problem for me was the finishing - I'm not good at doing that hand sewing shut of the opening when you stuff something - I think it's just lack of experience & maybe I would get better with practice but as it was it was kind of sloppy which bothers me & there the vinyl was a little less forgiving since it can get rough looking when it's been poked at too much.
