xmas @ the thrift store

I couldn't resist a last minute stop at the thrift store before the holiday yesterday...and I just had to pop back in here to share what I found.

a bulb nosed santa:

and a glitter covered ceramic snowman who was immediately placed on the mantle at home:

and best of all this little grouping which I did not arrange:

it was like the thrift store was wishing everyone who took the time to notice a merry christmas in it's own way :)

little brown jugs of glitter

so, I didn't learn any xmas songs on the accordion this year...but what I lacked in appropriate song titles I tried to make up for in snazzy extras:

I am wearing a martha stewart tree skirt...and glitter covered thrifted shoes:

and that reluctant snowflake over there, he is wearing a $1 target glittered headband:

coming later this week...another video including an appearance from not one but two santas!

I think the dog's over it...

I mean, I know my playing has a very long way to go, but he doesn't even seem impressed with my use of a seasonal prop or my bedazzled skirt! who wouldn't love a thrifted felt skirt with gold butterflies & rhinestone accents?

well, possibly he's just mad he didn't get to wear something special...maybe next time :)

thursday = embroidery

recently found wadded up at the bottom of my bag of embroidery floss...an abandoned wip from quite awhile ago:

I have trouble mustering the patience to fill things in, even if the image* is lovely. maybe I'll get back to work on it over the holiday, or maybe I'll switch to something similar but less complex...like this. or maybe I'll just drink hot cider & watch old xmas movies on tmc :)

moving onto this week's vintage embroidery pattern - I choose a little deer in honor of the one that's visiting my sister's yard in new york lately. I'm so jealous!

happy stitching!

*because geninne didn't specify this image as a free embroidery design I contacted her for permission & clarified that it was for personal use only.

dear santa...

just like when I was a little girl, I still want a pony.

back then I couldn't have a real one so I had toy ones & I'm still okay with that, but just a little bit bigger please:

and I'm flexible, it doesn't even have to be a pony...

yours truly,
gina

seen at the thrift store

it was strapless with a little train, done in a beautiful cream satin - simple & elegant. I hope the right girl finds it...and that she keeps the note with it always.

{have a great weekend!}

thursday = embroidery

so back when I planned to make all handmade gifts for xmas, a goal I've since abandoned, one of the ideas I came up with was an embroidered tinsel hoop:

I used this pattern for the snowflake {I also bought this pattern because doing a last name initial version for family's would be/would have been nice}, then hot glued two types of tinsel garland to the hoop. oh yeah, and I added white beads:

I used sulky stabilizer for the first time doing this...the tear away kind. I can't believe I waited so long, not sure exactly what I was scared of but it was easy!

if only cat's really could stitch like in vintage embroidery transfers, then maybe it could be a handmade xmas...

happy stitching :)
