thursday = embroidery

inspired by this diy project I made this:

I used a thin sheet of wood from michaels rather than a log slice & a connect the dot image from an old thrifted coloring book, although I opted to leave out the numbers. I added the color on the computer then used t-shirt transfer paper run through the printer to transfer the image onto the wood. I wasn't sure the transfer paper would work & in a couple places it got kind of funny because I think I got it & the wood a little too hot...but still I was pretty excited it worked at all!

and this week's vintage embroidery transfer is another of the girly stamped linen images {this one is especially cheeky I think}:

happy stitching! :)

to enter just leave a comment here before this thurs. {the 28th} at 6pm CST - then I'll announce the winner on friday.

p.s. if you really want a tote but don't win, or if you'd like a different doe-c-doe photo on a tote I've added a listing for custom totes in the shop!

thursday = embroidery

finally finished the project I started over the holidays:

I used badbird's pattern and a thrifted vintage linen.

in other embroidery news, I was very excited to find three sets of un-stitched vintage stamped linen towels at an estate sale recently:

because they're on fabric the scanned files require quite alot of cleaning so it will take me awhile to get them all done, but I think it's worth it...I just love the style of the illustrations!

happy stitching :)

ps. wow - thank you everyone for your sweet comments about the necklace, I'm so happy you liked it!

earring necklace

I recently repurposed a pair of clip-on earrings into a necklace & took photos of the process to share...

in addition to the earrings I bought a chain & jump rings at michaels

remove the clip-on component using a pair of needle nose pliers

sand down any raised or rough area that is exposed when the clip-on is removed

for the long piece to connect the two earrings I used part of a pin back

I cut off the pin & catch at either end

then sanded down the edges so they were nice & smooth

next I used e-6000 glue {be warned its stinky & toxic} to secure the pin back to the earrings

after it was dry I used more glue to add the jump rings - a stretched out paper clip provided support while it dried

finally I removed one link from the chain so I had two ends to attach to the jump rings & there you go...a necklace!

**edit to add: soldering the pin back & jump rings onto the earrings would be a more secure way to construct this but I don't know how yet. if you use glue, double check you've used enough on the jump rings especially & just keep in mind when you wear it that it is more delicate than soldered type jewelry.

recently thrifted...sort of

while home visiting my family for the holidays I wasn't able go out to do any thrifting, but I still managed to thrift without leaving the house and bring back some things...

one of the horses from my childhood collection:

I bought this while I was in college I think, I totally forgot about it:

my mom asked me if I wouldn't like to have these, which have been in the living room cupboard for as long as I can remember...of course I said yes:

thrifted by my sister & given to me for xmas...

and the best part about thrifting at your mom's house - you don't have to feel bad going through the photos thinking how sad it is that someone's memories ended up for sale. this photo of me at disney in 1977 totally makes want to have a little deer of my very own :)

{have a wonderful weekend!}

happy stitching :)
