changes

the copyright issue that came up regarding my last post has really got me concerned about what I post here and so going forward I've decided to make some changes.

off the top of my head I'm thinking I'll continue to post but it will be limited to my photos & craft projects.

this might be just what I need...

maybe I'll finally open that etsy shop I keep talking about!

Oy. I'm glad you've found the silver lining in all of this.

I don't understand why you can't post a picture of a vintage publication. How is that a copyright issue when you're just sharing a photo of it and not giving out any of the articles or patterns? Some of this copyright business sure is confusing to me.

It's a shame we've had so many copyright issues lately... as hobbyists and collectors, and ultimately as people who just want to share their collections with others, it can be frustrating.

Are the old craft magazines really copyrighted?

Another thing I find a bit amusing is that (just like in your case) all the people who ever tell me I am violating copyright do so by way of an anonymous comment, hit-and-run style. And at least in my case, they are never right - they're just randomly scare-mongering. :)

In any case, it's a shame to see bits of your inspiring collection go, but if the upside is more of your amazing photos, at least I have something to feel good about! :)

I read somewhere that anything prior to 1923 is public domain...

At any rate I'm excited to see what projects you have going!

Hmmm, I would think sharing a photo of a publication and giving it credit would be FREE advertisement!

I'm so sorry but I do understand since you also deal with copyright in your professional life. I know there are sites that have started archiving craft books & patterns that are copyright free. It's kind of like Gutenberg for crafts. Maybe they could help with the copyright problem & tell you what is Ok & what is not. I'm pretty sure it's in conjunction with Microsoft's archive project. Sorry for the long comment. I know how this has understandably vexed you.
