being from the buffalo, new york area I never have chicken wings except when I'm there because well, not to hurt anyone's feelings but they just aren't the same otherwise. that was until I was taken to al's bar & grill in parville, mo...
these are the real deal, made by a native who it turns out is related to my high school principle {it's a small world & it gets even smaller when you're from two little towns next to each other in western new york}!
so I no longer only have to eat wings only once or twice a year {thanks antonio!} - now if I can just get some beef on weck & fried dough I'll be all set, although my waistline & arteries would probably prefer I not...
p.s. out of curiosity we looked up the world record for eating chicken wings - 181 wings in 12 minutes by a tiny woman who's nickname is "the black widow"
I am drooling over this picture, and it's 9am. Wings are a-ok by me, any time of the day! I will have to have some of the original the next time I'm in Buffalo.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! Those look so yummy!
ReplyDeleteYou're from Buffalo! No wonder I like your blog so much! How I wish they had decent chicken wings in San Francisco....
ReplyDeleteYum! I grew up in Niagara Falls and was coached in the fine art of Buffalo wings since I was a wee one. I know exactly how you feel, they just aren't the same.
ReplyDeleteI've taken to making my own since I live in Northern California and don't make it back east very often. Every once and a while I get lucky and find a jar of sauce from the Anchor Bar and Grill in my mailbox. That and bread, my aunt mails me DiCamillo'a bread, lolz.
Whoops, DiCamillo's but I'm sure you knew what I meant, despite my typos. :)
ReplyDeleteWings are definitely one of my fav foods out there - shame we don't have good ones over here in the UK! xxx
ReplyDeleteAntonio is hungry now. Mmmmm wings. (from him not me) He'd like to set a date for next week.
ReplyDeletehaha - nice to know I'm not the only wing lover out there! thanks for the comments everyone...especially the transplanted wny/falls ones :)
ReplyDeleteAll this time I have been reading your blog and I didn't realize you were from Buffalo! What a nice surprise! The chicken wing eating contest is held each year at the Chicken Wing Festival Labor Day week end and it is usually the Black Widow who wins. What I didn't know until recently is that butter lambs and sponge candy are only available here in Buffalo.
