go even bigger or go home

back in june when I found the DQ sign on craigslist I truly believed it would be a one time thing...

then 3 days after xmas craigslist rocked my world again with an even bigger...

even better...

even crazier...

{did I mention bigger?}

opportunity.

and I went for it...

it doesn't look as good as the last time I photographed it this past may:

but that is indeed the same sign!

long story short - recently the sign was removed & I tried without luck to find out what happened to it. then the ad appeared, I called & placed a bid - which was too low. but the people liked my story {I sent a link to my photos & told them about calling all the sign co.'s in the city in an attempt to track it down} so gave me the chance to haggle & we were able to come to an agreement.

and then I realized it was about 17 feet long & totally freaked out.

but then I calmed down & told myself this is a piece of america's design history, it's like collecting art & it was a once in a lifetime chance :)

{have a wonderful weekend!}

  4. Yay! I'm so glad they cared enough about the history to give you a chance. I hope you get it working again with the neon someday.

  5. Oh wow. Wow! So I want to know where the sign will end up? Over your couch? In the garage?

  7. Hi, I am a long time reader/lurker, but your sign is fabulous. In Las Vegas, we have the Neon Boneyard - a museum dedicated to restored neon signs, from the last 50 or 60 years. Your sign would be a star!

  11. That sure is a great find! By any chance do you still have the pink vintage clock by general electric and would you happen to want to sell it for a reasonable price. I'm looking for one for my daughter Michele.
    Thanks,
    Laura
