right after I got back to wichita after being home I went to an estate sale & what should I find but this cake carrier covered in the very familar pattern:

I about cried with homesickness right then & there!
I like to buy my mom pieces she's missing but they tend to be so pricey - the carrier was pretty banged up though so the price was low & I'd never seen one before so I got it for her. although I haven't mailed it off yet. I want that little piece of home with me a bit longer...
{have a lovely weekend!}
p.s. thank you for all the stories about your hometowns on my last post - I am having so much fun reading them :)

I collect any Autum Leaf item that I find whether it is damaged or not. My aunt had a whole set of these dishes and I always thought they were ugly. They are expensive, aren't they? We used to buy from Jewel Tea when I was younger. My daddy wouldn't drink any other tea but the Jewel Tea brand. I have never seen a cake plate before, so you did good.
Years ago I picked up a bowl in this pattern at a thrift shop because I loved the pattern. It's nice to learn a little about its history and the connection with the Jewel Tea Company. Your mom is going to love that cake holder.
That carrier is so nice, knicks and all. What a sweet gift for your momma.
That is so exciting and endearing! How fun to find a piece. And even though it's not in tip top shape, it only gives it more character. Think of all the places it's been and cakes it's held!
Such a sweet story....and I really like that pattern!
That really brought back memories; it was always exciting to see the Jewel Tea truck coming down the street! Wish I had any of my mothers autumn leaf pieces :-)
OMG! I also collect autumn leaf and have NEVER seen a cake carrier! and I'm a baker!! I did pick up a platter this weekend in really nice condition, but now I'm on the hunt for a cake carrier. Thanks for sharing!
