thursday = embroidery

here is my first project from jennys new book:

I had every intention of embroidering directly onto the jeans {which by the way there are some great hints on how to do in the book} but when it came time to pick floss colors I was stumped & kept coming back to a pretty piece of scrap fabric I had recently picked up. so in the end I steamed-a-seamed the embroidered birds onto the jeans & called it a day.

birds of a feather flock together, or something like that...so I thought it only fitting that this week's vintage embroidery transfer be a bird:

happy stitching!

  1. Sweeet! Love it on the scrap fabric: very textural; terrific contrast.

  3. how do you keep the edges of the fabric from fraying? are you using some kind of adhesive?

  4. Great jeans. I've recently posted photos of a vintage embroidered baby blanket found at a thrift store...thought you might want to check it out.

  5. Love your birds! It's smart what you did--I'm not sure I could manage a tidy-looking embroidery directly on jeans.

    And cardinals are my favorite!

  7. thanks for your comments everyone!

    nora I didn't do anything to the edges - I figured if they did fray {though the steam-a-steam should help it not fray I would think} I was okay with it & that it would only fray a little since the embroidery would stop it at a certain point. I'm not sure I'm explaining that right...I hope it makes some kind of sense!

  8. Oh my goodness! When I was a little girl I had a pair of burgundy jeans with birds so similar to that embroidered on them. I was one of those little girls and refused to wear pants... they were the only pair I would wear!!
    So cute, thank you for the trip down memory lane!
