seriously, I don't know what possesses me sometimes...I decided we needed a big, embroidered deer head for above the mantle.
I used this vintage transfer:
to make this:
he's about 36" tall & 29" wide and is backed with 1/2" foam core.
I used #3 coton perle done in a chain stitch, which you can kind of see here:
I screwed up the eyes but I'm trying not to beat myself up about it too much...
moving on to today's vintage embroidery samples, which are from superior #125:
you can see the envelope & get more samples here.
happy stitching!
Holy wow! Great job! YOu think of the craziest things. (I mean crazy-good.)
ReplyDeleteSo full of the win it hurts.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be smiling all day.
whoa. how stinkin long does it take you to make stuff like that? i must be the slowest embroiderer in the world. Also, I nominated you for an award because you are so cool.

This is fantastic! Love it!
ReplyDeleteOh! My hubby would love that. Maybe it would be more of a hit than the felt taxidermy I made for him.
ReplyDeleteOMG, that has the awesomesauce. I love it! If I made it, I'd be tempted to put real (shed) antlers on it!
ReplyDeleteFFFFTTTTT!!!!!!! Lawd!
ReplyDeletethat's huh-larious! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThursday is my favorite day. I find myself looking forward to Thursday all week just to see what you have done! Thank you so much for the inspiration and the bright spot in the week.

I'm so Jealous! I would love to have that up on my wall!
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy awesome! How did you attach it to the foam core?
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, how amazing! That is such a good idea that um, hi, I'm going to have to steal one day.
ReplyDeleteI simply adore this. I love the look of the trophy head, but cannot stand in the same room as the real this. Faux-tastic!
ReplyDeleteSerious talent there girl!!
ReplyDeleteI really want to do something like this for my brother!
Thanks for posting it!

ReplyDeleteI like it- could I maybe get a moose for my birthday?

That's incredible - and sure beats the tar out of a moth-eaten, stuffed head! Thanks for the stitcheries too!
ReplyDeleteYou are my personal hero. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome. I come from a family full of hunters. I am not carrying on the tradition. Wonder what they'd think if I bragged about the rack I have hanging over my mantle and it was this! ;)
ReplyDeleteluv it! This is what I'd have if I had a hunting lodge, since I'm no hunter and never could be. I know a few hunters I'd like to give this to ;O)
ReplyDeleteYou are brilliant. I don't really see a problem with the eyes.
ReplyDeleteI would buy that deer head in a SECOND! Absolutely love it.
ReplyDeleteit's amazing!!
ReplyDeleteOkay..the fabulous clock and now this! It's amazing -- you have created a whole new craft of embroidered accessories for the home. I can't wait to see your next project.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the other comments (and am a first time reader here) but I have to say that if I had an embroidered deer head above the mantel (had I a mantel) I would want him to have EXACTLY that "are you kidding me?" expression in his eyes! Seriously, his eyes just scream "what the HECK are you saying to me? are you for real?" and what more could you want an embroidered deer to say with his eyes? He doesn't even have eyebrows but he is raising one anyway. I love it!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, this deer is awesome!
ReplyDeleteThankfully it's not a real deer head. I feel so bad for those deers. Just sitting there enjoying life minding their own business. Next thing you know their head is hanging on someone's ceiling.
