thursday = embroidery

seriously, I don't know what possesses me sometimes...I decided we needed a big, embroidered deer head for above the mantle.

I used this vintage transfer:

to make this:

he's about 36" tall & 29" wide and is backed with 1/2" foam core.

I used #3 coton perle done in a chain stitch, which you can kind of see here:

I screwed up the eyes but I'm trying not to beat myself up about it too much...

moving on to today's vintage embroidery samples, which are from superior #125:

you can see the envelope & get more samples here.

happy stitching!

  4. Oh! My hubby would love that. Maybe it would be more of a hit than the felt taxidermy I made for him.

  19. That's awesome. I come from a family full of hunters. I am not carrying on the tradition. Wonder what they'd think if I bragged about the rack I have hanging over my mantle and it was this! ;)

  20. luv it! This is what I'd have if I had a hunting lodge, since I'm no hunter and never could be. I know a few hunters I'd like to give this to ;O)

  24. I haven't read the other comments (and am a first time reader here) but I have to say that if I had an embroidered deer head above the mantel (had I a mantel) I would want him to have EXACTLY that "are you kidding me?" expression in his eyes! Seriously, his eyes just scream "what the HECK are you saying to me? are you for real?" and what more could you want an embroidered deer to say with his eyes? He doesn't even have eyebrows but he is raising one anyway. I love it!!

  25. Okay, this deer is awesome!

  26. Thankfully it's not a real deer head. I feel so bad for those deers. Just sitting there enjoying life minding their own business. Next thing you know their head is hanging on someone's ceiling.
