the long & short of it

lately I've been very lucky & thrifted some great vintage hawaiian dresses & skirts:

but they're so long & I'm kinda short...to me floor length seems so formal & I'd really like to wear them for everyday, so I'm going to shorten them. but before I did I thought that pink one would be fun to wear for my latest accordion video:

I took a couple still photos of the dress on especially since I wanted to show what it's got going on in the back because on the hanger it doesn't really show up:

I'm not sure if there's a name for this style...or why you'd want to put pleats in the back so your trunk looked to have even more junk than it already had but I still kind of like it!

Those are wonderful! They will look so cute shortened up! Save that left over fabric for some super cute couch pillows or something.

your video uploads always make me laugh! i also have to shorten skirts, specially vintage dresses...

i'm wondering how can you manage to have your four legged friend so quiet near you while you play music

Ahh I love kitschy vintage dresses! The pink one is fab - though I agree the pleats at the back are a strange addition! xxx

Looks like a Watteau pleat? Fab finds!

Those dresses and skirts are so adorable -- and after you hem them, you could make aprons with this extra fabric! (I'm a little obsessed)

Your accordion talent just blows me away -- you get significantly better with every song I hear. Your Fascination is sounding very smooth.

Love love love that pink floral dress! Made for a pretty accordion video. :)
What pretty frocks you've been picking up!

Shortening them is a wonderful idea. What awesomeness are you going to make with the leftover fabric?

Hi there - I'm a looooong-time lurker coming out of lurkdom to express my undying devotion to that pink dress! It just blows my mind. And I hope it knows how lucky it is that it was found by someone who really appreciates it. :)

I'm thinking that pleat in the back of the pink dress indicates she was a bride's maid dress in her former life. Seems like I remember similar dresses for that purpose in the early 70's. You know you have to make your bride's maid's behinds look big!

I have almost the exact same dress as the last one! Instead of pink, mine is yellow & orange. I always thought it would look cute short - but I think I left it at my parents' house when I moved out, so it's probably long gone by now!

FUN!!! Where did you find these? My daughter would so love these. She had so much fun when we did the vintage fashion show. (I did a post on that a few months ago.)
A Hawaiian dress wearing, accordion playing, blogger! I knew I liked you!
