thursday = embroidery

I've been busy working on a shop update:

{should be ready next week sometime, more to come about that...}

I keep forgetting to share this photo I snapped while at a stop light last time I was in Kansas City:

that's where Aunt Martha lives!

finally, I thought this might be a good time to post some embroidery designs for valentine's day so you can get a headstart if you're so inclined:

{these are from the cut & loose pile so don't know who made them...sorry}

happy stitching!

flower pins

proof that flickr is educational...

I bought this pin last summer at an estate sale:

recently I saw this on cathy of california’s flickr stream:

{photo used with permission}

I had no idea these were a fad – nor that Enid Collins made them.

so I checked the back of my pin:

cool!

while I had my flower pins out I took a couple more photos just for fun:

p.s. if I was in CA I would so be taking that class...sigh.

today's embroidery samples are once again from my cut, loose pile so I don't know their origins...but they're very happy:

recently thrifted

I had every intention of blogging yesterday but the draw of the couch & my embroidery was too strong. {I had the day off from work}

p.s. please indulge me one more photo of the dog looking better in my new vintage sunglasses than I ever will:

{thanks!}

thursday = embroidery

I like tea.

hot in the winter, iced in the summer.

hot tea wise jasmine is my favorite. although I also like good, old fashioned liptons with cream & sugar - especially when at a diner. and I miss the version my dad made with honey & lemon - it always made you feel better if you had a cold or were upset about something.

and I remember how naughty I thought that phrase "coffee, tea or me" was when I was little...

funny what embroidery transfer designs can make you think about:

{I do drink coffee occasionally...in the form of lattes...hot in the winter, iced in the summer}

seventeen make it magazine

I bought a 1972 fall/winter issue this past weekend at an estate sale & thought I'd share some images:

I love the combinations of pattern & color on these - I wish I could pull off wearing this kind of vintage clothing:

and this is my favorite because I have a thing for beards & coats:

if I'm reading correctly I believe the illustration is attributed to Albert Elia

{check my flickr for a couple more scans if you're interested...}

cowtown

this past summer my mom came to visit & I took her to the old cowtown museum; where she enjoyed talking to the people "in character" & I enjoyed taking photos.

I never got around to uploading the photos to flickr, but I did make a slideshow:

wow

this is my 300th post & jan. 2nd marked the one year anniversary of this blog - I can hardly believe it.

this space has become a very important part of my creative life, more so than I ever anticipated. without it I don't know if I would be making the things I make, or taking the photographs I take.

and without your kind comments & encouragement I don't know if I would have the confidence I do in my craft. thank you.

{p.s. the doe is from an estate sale this past weekend, she was 50 cents & I love her tail}

tree of life

for my sister cill:

I used cotton perle floss and the chain stitch to fill in the tree & leaves. then felt for the circles & letters. {actually, the letters are that really stiff felt they have at michaels - I don't think I could have cut those out of regular, floppy felt.} I did a little stitching around the edge of the circles to give them more substance and texture. the whole piece is stretched over a wood frame for easy hanging.

i'm so happy with the way all the gifts I made this year came out but this one I was especially satisfied with since it was something different for me style-wise & I tried some new techniques.

have a lovely weekend!

I still do embroidery

I did these patterns as xmas gifts for two of my sisters...

his & hers for sue:

and for mern, the pattern for her real-life wedding dress:

I have one more sister...tomorrow I'll show what I made her.

p.s. no embroidery pattern today - but next week I'll get back into my weekly posting of them, promise! also, thank you so much for all the nice comments on the sampler - they totally made my day :)
