friday = misc.

if you can hum, you can play a kazoo!

these adorable {working} kazoos are handmade in the US; in the wonderful little town where I grew up, in a factory that's been there since 1907 {more history here}.

if you're looking for a unique toy, that's not made in China, I hope you'll consider purchasing one here...and I hope you don't mind this little plug for a small-town business close to my heart.

have a great weekend or long holiday weekend if you're in the states...I'll be taking monday off to fully enjoy my 3 days - see you tuesday!

{p.s. please read flor's comment on my previous post if you're following the vogart situation}

embroidery transfer sharing on flickr

I've just made all my embroidery transfers on flickr private because it has come to my attention {thanks flor!} that the Vogart trademark is owned by Plaid Industries and therefore posting them is a copyright infringement.

****Edited to add: I'm also deleting all my vogart images here on the blog

click here if you'd like to read more about this issue.

sorry everyone!

{I'll write more about this later, once it all sinks in}

thursday = embroidery

I'm very excited to share a recently finished project today! I mentioned on Monday that I went to a birthday party for a one-year-old last weekend and today I'm going to show one of the handmade gifts I made him:

after I posted the girl paper doll, I realized I didn't really explain that the girl/boy is paper but all the clothes are embroidered fabric.

next thursday I'll share the other piece I made, which is my favorite of the two because it involves a dressed animal & there's nothing cuter {I think} than animals wearing clothes!

And finally I'd like to thank the make & take blog for making doe-c-doe their blog of the week!

whew - that was a long post! I better go take a nap...

monday = thrifted

I had a really nice weekend, I hope you did too...

I went to a sweet one year old's birthday party which was so much fun {I'll be sharing the gifts I made for him this thursday & next}!

I also went to an antique show with a dear friend, where we found this; which we both promptly decided had to come home with me:

{its kind of hard to see but the image is actually made of very thin, cut wood/veneer & the dark brown areas are printed on}

I did also go to one estate sale where I scored this beatiful vintage, but ripped, quilt & metal game:

{the game I'll turn into another clock}

I also went to a small carnival that had a pretty carousel:

all & all a very nice couple of days!

thursday = embroidery

today I have an old finished project to share. I made these hangings for my sister {hi cill!} for her birthday last year:

I used the wee wonderfuls' free pattern available here.

{on a side note - hilary's ribbon doll is soooo dang cute!}

anyway...the edges & hangers are ric rac {which my mom helped me with - okay, she did all the sewing...I confess!} & they are backed with a green & white flannel fabric. my family teased me that they seemed to be pot-holders but they're just decorative. she always decorates her house so nicely for xmas and since her birthday is at the beginning of dec. it was fun to give her something she could use for the holiday.

and of course I would never forget the weekly embroidery transfer! today is one I found cut and loose in a pile of misc. transfers:

enjoy!

wednesday = books

thanks to a very nice email from Ava {hi!} I will be adding ISBN #'s {when provided} to the info for each book I post from now on. what a great idea...I wish I'd thought of it!

Ava is on the prowl for ondori embroidery books specifically so I sent her a visual of each cover & ISBN for all the titles I've featured previously on the blog. if anyone else is interested in having the same info sent to them just leave a comment {don't forget to include your email address} & I'd be happy to send it to you.

so, without further ado our book today just happens to be another Ondori embroidery title!

title: Simple Embroidery
publisher: Ondori Publishing Co.
copyright: 1976
ISBN: 0-87040-377-X
